Thank you for reading TSUBAMEDIA.

TSUBAMEDIA is a publication about edible bird’s nest, written from several directions at once: the science, the culture, the places it comes from, the natural environment, and the people.

It is run by Japan Bansho Co., Ltd., a company that handles edible bird’s nest — but it is not a publication that exists to talk about our own products.

Chicks in the nest. They are raised in a nest made from nothing but the parent birds’ secretion. Johor, Malaysia, March 2026. Photograph by the editorial desk.

How people and edible bird’s nest have come to be connected. The environment the swiftlets live in. The culture and the industry handed down where it is produced. What research has established. And what it will take for the natural world and the industry to carry on together.

We go to the places where we can, meet the people, work from primary material and research, and try to report carefully on where edible bird’s nest stands today.

What you can write to us about

About an article

If you have a question about an article, a correction to point out, or new information, please tell us. We will look into it and amend or add to the article where it is warranted.

Research and information

We welcome research, work and on-the-ground information relating to edible bird’s nest, biology, food science, beauty and health, the environment, sustainability, and the cultures and industries of Southeast Asia.

Researchers, producers, specialists, people living in the regions concerned — whatever your position, please feel free to write.

For journalists and media

We take enquiries about interviews, appearances and information from newspapers, magazines, television, web publications, YouTube, podcasts and elsewhere.

As well as the research, culture, origins, ecology, manufacture, sustainability and overseas industry of edible bird’s nest, please also write to us about interviews, conversations or talks involving Japan Bansho Co., Ltd. and its representative.

What we cannot answer

TSUBAMEDIA is not a medical institution. Edible bird’s nest is a food, not a medicine, so we cannot answer enquiries about individual health — illnesses, symptoms, medication or treatment. For anything concerning your health, please consult a doctor, a pharmacist or another medical professional.

Nor is TSUBAMEDIA an online shop. For orders, delivery and returns, please contact the seller you bought from.

We also do not rank particular products or companies, or judge one against another — questions such as “which product is best?” or “is this one genuine?”

What we offer instead is the material you need to understand edible bird’s nest and choose for yourself: where it comes from, how it is made, how its quality is controlled, what the research says, the environment, and the conditions it is produced under.

Where we stand

Fruit trees planted around a birdhouse. Insects gather for the fruit, and the insects are what the swiftlets eat. Malaysia, March 2026. Photograph by the editorial desk.

TSUBAMEDIA is run by Japan Bansho Co., Ltd., a company that handles edible bird’s nest.

We state that relationship, show our sources — research and public material — as fully as we can, and keep the facts separate from our own view. When we write about our own products or activities, we write in a way that makes the relationship visible.

And we do not build our own value by running other companies down.

What we want to understand is not only edible bird’s nest itself. It is how the swiftlets and the natural world, the people and the places, the culture and the industry can carry on together without strain.

We would like TSUBAMEDIA to be a publication that thinks about that question alongside you.
